How to Effectively Use Your PC

Okay, it's been a long time since I'm gone into the void :p

Well, this time I'll give some tips about using your PC the right way, and probably will increase it's processing speed a little :)

  1. Always let your PC boot up completely before starting any application..
Usually it takes about 2 - 5 minutes since start-up depending on how much application is installed in your computer

  2. Refresh the Desktop after closing any application
This will remove any unused file from the RAM

  3. Do not set a very large image as your wallpaper
Eventually, do not set wallpaper at all if your PC has a very low free RAM space (<64 MB)

  4. Do not clutter your Desktop with a lot of shortcut..
Each shortcut eats approximately 500 bytes of RAM

  5. Empty the Recycle Bin regularly
Remember that the file are not really deleted from your Hard Drive until you empty the Recycle Bin

  6. Delete the temporary internet files regularly (history, cache, etc)

  7. Defragment your Hard Drive at least once every two months
This will free up some space in your Hard Drive and rearrange the files so that your application can run faster

  8. Always at least make 2 partitions in your Hard Drive
If you use Windows, it uses all the available empty space on the Drive where it's installed (usually the C: drive) as virtual memory when your RAM is full.. So, store all large programs and files like games, movies, etc, in your second partition to keep the C: drive as empty as possible

  9. When installing new software, disable the option of having a tray icon
The tray icons use up available RAM, and also slow down the booting of your PC. Also disable the option of starting the application automatically when the PC boots, unless it's really needed. You can set the automatic start-up program in the msconfig
Run program (windows + R), and then type msconfig.. Set the start-up program under the Startup bar

  10. Protect your PC from dust
Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and thereby gradually heating your CPU and affects the processing speed. If possible, clean your CPU fan periodically

Hmm, I think that's all to it.. Remember that the PC's capability depends on it's user.. Treat her well, and of course she will treat you as well also :D
